Social Categories

In designing your Brassy's Men character, you may want to think about how your character fits into the larger world around them. One way to do this is to considder what social categories your character may belong to. Your friendly game writers have come up with a few suggestions.

Your character may fit into one or more of the following:

  • Politics: Members of Parliament and their aides have great influence on what happens both in London and abroad. There are also a number of cabinet ministers and other political officials whose influence is substantial.
  • Law: Once the political movers and shakers have passed their precious laws, it is up to the police to enforce their will; Scotland Yard occasionally helps. Barristers and Magistrates help to make sure that those laws are properly interpreted and make a close aproximation to justice.
  • Crime: When the laws are too restrictive for your freewheeling lifestyle, you may find yourself outside the law. Prostitutes and drug dealers are called criminals by society, but so are cat-burglars and heretics.
  • Religion: Speaking of heretics, the Anglican church is a very powerful institution in Victorian England, and its priests and bishops and archbishops are quite attentive to their parishoners and their souls.
  • Society: Souls are one thing, but spirits abound where the rich and well-dressed gather. Social clubs throw lavish balls for visiting dignitaries and wealthy industrialists.
  • Other: Our wealth of ideas is certainly not a limit. If you, dear player, can conceive of yet another way your character will meld with the greater Victorian society, then send us your ideas and watch our eyes sparkle.
