The Secret of Atlantis
Information Pictures Character Request Form

Friends and fellow colleagues of science, I come before you today with a proposal.

In these past few years, we have seen The British Empire conquer the land with its explorations into darkest Africa. We have begun our mastery of the air with our fleet of airships. But there is one part of our world that remains untouched to this day: the great depths that lie below the sea.

As early as 360 BC, the Greek Philosopher Plato spoke of Atlantis, a city of marvels which was sunk to the bottom of the ocean that bears its name. References to Atlantis have been found in the writings of ancient Hebrew scholars and in the hieroglyphs of the ancient Egyptians.

Now there are those who doubt that an island could sink to the bottom of the ocean, and it is a certainty that no inhabitant could survive such a calamity. There are those who say that Atlantis was an island of miracles and could never have existed in the first place. It would take a miracle to find such a place.

But my friends, we live in a time of miracles. We live in a world where man can fly from London directly to Berlin, where autonomous machines of brass roam our streets, where miracles of science happen every day in the world around us.

And I have a dream of another miracle: a great sea going machine, a submersible device that can hold a crew, cargo, and maybe even passengers. Friends and fellow colleagues; we have the clues, we have the maps. I say to you: we will find Atlantis!

The year is 1877. Queen Victoria presides over an Empire spanning the globe. But this is not the 1877 of our world. Great airships travel between London, Berlin, Cairo, even to New York. The sewers below London hold all manner of foul beast. And strange magics are whispered of in back alleys, even as the church condemns their use. This is the world of Brassy’s Men.

The Secret of Atlantis is a 4-hour live action roleplaying game set in an alternate Brassy’s Men Universe, in September 1877. It is a completely standalone game; no experience with the world of Brassy’s Men is needed. However, players of the campaign are welcome to play their campaign characters, even if their characters died or became unplayable during the course of the campaign. This is an alternate universe and is not subject to Brassy’s Continuity.

The game will be held on September 29th in Columbus, Ohio. We have a room block set up at the Drury Inn in downtown Columbus, a mile or two from the site. The current plan includes a "shuttle service" to and from the site and the hotel before and after the game. Room rate is $110/night and includes Hot breakfast (eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, waffles), Evening beverages and snacks served daily from 5:30-7:30, Free High-speed Internet, and Indoor/outdoor pool and whirlpool. There is no airport shuttle, but they suggest Arch Express. Mention the Game Manufacturers block for the room rate. And, hey, go ahead and share rooms or stay elsewhere if you want. I get no discount for room nights at this game. Special thanks to Trey Reilly for setting up the room block.

We are planning activities for visitors to Columbus for the day of the 29th, including a lunch get together before the game, and a dead dog and hanging out after the game. Your writers include Mike Young, Lynn Anslow, and Cathy "Del" Raymond. Your floor GMs include Mike Young, Lynn Anslow, Jim Edwards-Hewitt, and Suzanne Wayner.

The cost for the game is $45 for pregenerated characters and $55 if you want to play your campaign character. Yeah, that’s a lot of money. Why? Several reasons:

  • First and foremost the space is kick-ass. I cannot overemphasizes the kick-assness of the space; you will believe you are in a submarine and you will believe you are in Atlantis. There are pictures of the game space below.

  • We will be serving hors-devours (smoked salmon, vegetable nori roll, polenta rounds, mini crab cakes, fried ravioli). They won't be enough for a full meal, but they'll be a nice treat. Also, there will be unlimited non-alcoholic beverages.

  • The game will be a standard theater-style game, and just like the Brassy’s Men campaign will have plots aplenty for the characters.

  • And for those of you who care about such things, don’t worry, I am not going to make money on the game, even at those prices.

Registration is open, and will cap at 40. I expect space to go quickly, so sign up right away. We have 4 open slots left as of this writing (June 21, 007).

How do you register? Go to The Brassy's Men Database and create an account and then register for the game online. If you do not want to create an account, you can register by sending mail to mike at interactivitiesink dot com.
